Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, poor concentration, and tendency to suicide, which can be seen in anybody regardless of age, gender, race, or socio-economic status. In most countries, the number of people who would suffer from depression during their lives falls within an 8–12% range. The aim of study was to evaluate the effect of stress management program with depressed patients on reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Design: A quasi experimental design was used. Setting: The study was conducted at Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment Hospital in Mit-Khalf at Menoufyia, Governorate. Sample: A purposive sample of 30 depressed patients that were diagnosed by psychiatrists according to DSMIV. Data were collected using the depression, anxiety and stress scale. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 21; t test for paired samples is used to test whether there is a significant difference between the mean of depression, anxiety and stress before and after applying the stress program. For quantitative demographic variables, Pearson correlation coefficient is calculated to measure the direction and strength of the correlation. To investigate the correlations between the three scales and some demographic variables, t tests for independent samples and one way ANOVA F tests were used for qualitative demographic variables. Results: The results revealed that, patients were in age group (30>60) years, 50% were female equal to male. There was highly statistically significant difference between pre (Measure1) andpost (Measure2) intervention program regarding depression, anxiety and stress score levels. There was positive relation between depression, anxiety and stress such as when depression increases anxiety and stress increases. Conclusion: Implementation of stress management program with depressed patients has a positive effect on reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Recommendation: Based on the results of this study we recommend use of stress management program for patients with depression to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
