Physical oceanography and air-sea interactions, coastal ocean circulation in semi-enclosed basins (e.g. North Adriatic Sea, Gulf of Naples, etc.).
Numerical modelling of coastal processes and physical models coupled with atmospheric, transport and ecological models.
Data assimilation techniques in ocean numerical models and sensitivity analyses of the coastal circulation using an adjoint model approach.
Mesoscale and submesoscale dynamics, modelling eddy transport of passive tracers, lagrangian dispersion and modelling of transport and diffusion phenomena
Real-time numerical modelling during oceanographic cruises aimed at SAR activities, forecasting of oil-spill trajectories, harmful algal blooms, etc.
Field activity at sea with CTD data acquisition; navigation assistance; positioning of the sampling points; collection, processing and analysis of oceanographic data.
Use of HF radar data for the measurement of surface current field of coastal area (e.g. Gulf of Naples).
Collection, processing, validation and analysis of meteo-marine and satellite data with a particular emphasis on statistical techniques and time series analysis (e.g. EOF analysis) for studies of climate variability and of the physical and biogeochemical features of coastal areas.
